Hannah Hidalgo took center stage in No. 10 Notre Dame’s 80-70 overtime victory against No. 4 Texas on Thursday night. Hidalgo delivered a 30-point display in a top-10 showdown. Hidalgo recorded back-to-back 3-pointers, pushing Notre Dame ahead 76-70 with just over two minutes remaining in overtime.

During the post-game press conference, Hidalgo spoke about her approach to high-pressure situations.

"I think I just, you know, guys have to give me the talent, and I'll just go out there. I have fun with it; I try to have fun every time I step on the court. Try not to make everything so serious, you know, because, you know, it's just a game.
"But, you know, of course I want to win. But, you know, just to say I'm just blessed."

In overtime, Texas initially claimed a 70-68 lead after scoring first, however, their offense faltered towards the end. Missing nine consecutive shots, Notre Dame took control of the game.

The Fighting Irish capitalized with a decisive stretch, starting with two clutch free throws by Liatu King. Hidalgo had a chance to add to the win with a corner 3-pointer, but the shot didn’t fall as time expired.

Hannah Hidalgo’s journey to prove doubters wrong

At 5-foot-6, Hannah Hidalgo has faced doubts about whether her size would hold her back at the collegiate level, but her dominant play has silenced critics. She emerged as one of the NCAA’s most well-rounded players and tied for first in scoring nationally, Hidalgo has been a cornerstone of Notre Dame’s success.

Despite her struggles against Utah last weekend, Hidalgo showcased her range by hitting two of five three-point attempts, slightly exceeding her season average. However, her overall efficiency dipped, shooting 6-for-17 from the field.

Notre Dame’s two defeats this season marked their first back-to-back losses since 2021. However, they have had some important wins, including over USC on November 23, where Hidalgo scored 24 points to help the Fighting Irish secure a commanding 74-61 win against JuJu Watkins' Trojans.

That win boosted Notre Dame’s 2024 credentials among fans and analysts. The buzz surrounding the team even attracted celebrities such as Snoop Dogg and Michael B. Jordan to the game against USC.
