Haley Cavinder achieved another milestone in Miami's game against Virginia Tech on Jan. 5. Although the Hurricanes lost to the Hokies, Cavinder became the latest member of the 1,000 rebounds club in college basketball.
Cavinder achieved the feat in the first quarter when she grabbed a defensive rebound following a missed 3-pointer from Hokies sophomore forward Carys Baker with 8:51 to go.
The Hurricanes posted an Instagram message appreciating Cavinder's achievement. Within a few hours, Haley's twin sister, Hanna Cavinder, celebrated her milestone.
"1k," wrote Hanna Cavinder.
Before transferring to Miami ahead of the 2022-23 season, the Cavinder twins represented Fresno State in the first three seasons of their college basketball careers. In that stint, Haley Cavinder recorded 718 rebounds and has added 286 more to her tally while representing Miami.

Meanwhile, Hanna Cavinder finished with nine points and two rebounds against the Hokies. Despite Miami's best efforts, which included a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds from Cameron Williams, the Hurricanes failed to seal the deal. They led by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter, but collapsed toward the end.
Carys Baker finished as the Hokies' top scorer with 23 points, which included seven 3-pointers, and also grabbed nine rebounds.
The Hurricanes suffered their third straight defeat in conference play and their fourth defeat of the season. They will look to bounce back when they travel to New York to face Syracuse on Jan. 12.
