UConn freshman Liam McNeeley was awestruck by his teammate Tarris Reed Jr.'s explosive play during UConn's game against Georgetown on Saturday. With 8:22 to left in the second half, the Michigan transfer made the most of a dime from Alex Karaban, throwing down an emphatic dunk to extend the Huskies' lead to 23 points
The Huskies shared a post on Instagram to appreciate Reed Jr.'s dunk, captioning the post, "Too tough, Tarris." McNeeley, who has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury on January 1, also featured in the final seconds of the clip as he reacted to the junior's dunk.
Soon after the Huskies uploaded their post, McNeeley shared the post on his Instagram story with a two-word reaction.
"Air Reed," McNeeley wrote.
The dunk gave Reed Jr. his only points of the game, as he impressed on the defensive end in his 12-minute performance off the bench. Reed Jr. grabbed five rebounds and made three blocks to help the Huskies record a 68-60 victory over the Hoyas.
Liam McNeeley starts off strong in his freshman season, could return by end of January
Liam McNeeley emerged as an elite forward prospect during his high school basketball career at Montverde Academy, enjoying immense success alongside Cooper Flagg. He was the No. 9 prospect in ESPN's Top 100 prospects in the Class of 2024.
McNeeley made a formidable start to his UConn career till a high ankle sprain ruled him out of action. In 14 games appearances, the 6'7" forward has averaged 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists, establishing himself as one of the top freshman in a talented class this year.
Last week, UConn HC Dan Hurley expressed optimism that McNeeley would be back on the court by the end of January.
