UConn Huskies star guard Paige Bueckers was one of the happiest people after the announcement that tennis star Coco Gauff and NBA icon LeBron James would be the flag bearers for Team USA. Gauff became the first female tennis player and King James became the first male basketball star to wave the American flag in the Opening Ceremony.
The 20-year-old tennis star could not participate in the Tokyo Olympics as she had contracted COVID-19 just days before the competition. Though the infection delayed her Olympic dream, Gauff was happier than ever to share the moment with the Los Angeles Lakers star.
She posted a series of pictures and a video from the precious moment. Coco and LeBron could be seen proudly waving the U.S. flag and sharing an unforgettable memory. The UConn star, along with other hoopers like Cameron Brink and Caitlin Clark, liked the post.
Paige Bueckers gears up for the 2024 women's college basketball season
Paige Bueckers, who has a NIL valuation of $1 million, as per On3 Sports, did not declare for the 2024 WNBA draft. The UConn star did so because she suffered two injuries during her time with the Huskies. Her injuries have limited her playing time in college.
But she was healthy enough to play for the Geno Auriemma-led squad last year and was great. Even though she and the team lost against the Caitlin Clark-led Iowa Hawkeyes in the Final Four round of the 2024 NCAAW Tournament, she still had the honor of being a unanimous First-team All-American and Naismith Player of the Year.
Paige Bueckers is ready to take on the responsibilities to further the Huskies' status in the upcoming season. With the help of her teammates, Azzi Fudd and Aubrey Griffin, Bueckers is expected to lead a UConn squad that will be one of the favorites to win the NCAAW championship title next year.
