KK Arnold has always had great things to say about Paige Bueckers during their time together at UConn. She opened up about Bueckers' outstanding leadership qualities in a media briefing on Saturday ahead of the Huskies' weekend showdown with the Providence Friars.
A reporter asked Arnold what she had learned from Bueckers during their one-and-a-half years playing together in Storrs. Arnold gave a thoughtful response, focusing on what makes Bueckers a great leader for the Huskies' basketball program on and off the court.
"Honestly, from watching her, she’s never going to stop," Arnold said (Timestamp 4:11). "She’s motivated each and every day. She does the little stuff. She’s a great leader. Her voice carries over."
"Just following her by example. She does a great job and tries to do things the right way the first time so we can follow behind her and just kind of carry over from her energy," Arnold said.
Arnold also talked about the lessons she learned from Bueckers that she can apply to her career.
"Something that she does is the little things," Arnold said. "Either that’s off the court, like recovery, watching her do stuff to take care of her body. Or just on the court, the things that she does to score, looking out for our teammates, talking different things."
"That shows a lot of things. We all look up to her in a way that we just follow behind."
KK Arnold and Paige Bueckers look to bounce back after UConn's heartbreak vs USC
KK Arnold and Paige Bueckers return to action on Sunday after a week-long break during the Christmas holidays, eager to bounce back from their gut-wrenching 72-70 loss to the USC Trojans on Dec. 21.
The Huskies took the lead after erasing an 18-point deficit in the second half, but their rally ultimately fell short against USC as they lost to a top-10 team for the second time this season.
UConn will next face the Providence Friars, who have lost two of their last three games. Geno Auriemma will lean on Bueckers to carry the offense for the Huskies. She leads the team in scoring, averaging 20.8 points per game.
Arnold has also been a key contributor off the bench, averaging 4.2 points and 2.7 assists per outing.
