Days after donning Nika Muhl's Seatle Storm jersey and indulging in a rock, papers, scissors game, Paige Bueckers is spearheading the Rookie of the Year chants for her "twin." As Muhl continued her streak of glimmering pre-game outfits, Instagram handle "leaguefits" highlighted her all-black attire from the Sunday rematch against the Chicago Sky.
The post prompted Paige Bueckers to voice her sentiments on Muhl's rookie of the year honors through a comment.
"ROTY," Bueckers quipped as radiated on @leaguefit's latest Instagram story.
Nika Muhl played four seasons for the Huskies while earning a starting role in her junior and senior campaigns. She averaged 5.8 points, 5.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 42.7% from the field to be selected 14th overall in the 2024 draft.
21 games into Storm's season, Muhl is yet to see solid minutes on the court. She has only stepped into action for 10 games and averages less than 3 minutes of court time; a significant decline from her freshman-year bench role at UConn.
With that pace, despite Paige Bucker's cheers, Muhl would not be able to contend for the WNBA rookie honors. According to current projections, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese lead the Rookie of the Year race while Rickea Jackson, Kamilla Cardoso and Aaliyah Edwards fill up the top 5 spots.
Paige Bueckers replicates Kelsey Plum's t-shirt throw at Storm's game
Paige Bueckers was present in the Climate Pledge Arena as the Seatle Storm redeemed their previous game loss to the Chicago Sky. During one of the breaks, Bueckers stepped into the middle of the court to show off her arm. Like Kelsey Plum surprised fans in 2017, Bueckers waved to the crowd and cannoned a t-shirt deep into the seats.
Bueckers is one of the best guards in the women's basketball circuit and is assumed to become the number-one pick in the 2025 WNBA draft.
She had the option to compete with Caitlin Clark for this year's top pick. However, Buckers chose to exercise her final-year eligibility with the UConn Huskies in hopes of topping her best season-long production and winning an NCAA title.
