UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers joined StockX for a round of pop-a-shot as she answered some burning questions. After scoring points with her first two answers, the guard was asked to name her dream starting five. She said:
"I would say Sue Bird at the one, Diana Taurasi at the two, Maya Moore at the three, Breanna Stewart at the four and A'ja Wilson at the five."
All players, except Wilson, played for the Huskies and are undoubtedly legends of the program. Bueckers is on the cusp of joining this elite club as she approaches her final college season this fall. The guard led UConn to the Final Four last season, despite an injury-ridden squad.
Despite all of her achievements and skills on the court, the one thing Paige Bueckers has yet to conquer is an NCAA championship and the 2024-25 season is her last chance to achieve this.
“There’s a much larger sense of urgency,” Bueckers said via The Athletic. “This is my last year to get what I came here for, which is a national championship. … No more ‘Passive Paige.’”
During last year's campaign, Bueckers averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.4 blocks while shooting 53% from the field. With the healthy return of the UConn roster and the additions of players like Kaitlin Chen from the transfer portal, the guard's overall efficiency is expected to rise next season.
Paige Bueckers looks back at her college years and equates it to one word
In her four years of college, Paige Bueckers spent one and a half years sidelined due to back-to-back injuries. During her appearance on Flau'jae Johnson's podcast "Best of Both Worlds with Flau'jae", Bueckers reminisced on her time and revealed the one word she wants her time at Storrs to be remembered as:
"Just being resilient. I've gone through a lot of stuff since I've been at college, just like injuries and adversity. But just being resilient, being a winner, being a great teammate, great leader, I think being the best teammate I could be is like the most important thing for me," Bueckers said.
"And just being someone that would do anything for the program, rep the program proud. Did great things on and off the floor for the communities. Just being a great human being along with being a great basketball player, but a lot," she added.
With Bueckers now prepping for a move to the WNBA next year, could she end her UConn story with a national championship?
