Paige Bueckers has been a marquee player for the UConn Huskies over the last three years. However, as per reports, she hinted that next season could be her last with the program.
On Friday, Hearst's Maggie Vanoni reported that Bueckers set her sights on declaring for the 2025 WNBA draft, as the senior plans on playing her final season of college basketball at UConn next season. Bueckers reportedly reiterated that she does not spend too much of her time contemplating her plans for the future.
At UConn's senior night in February this year, Bueckers confirmed that she will return to the Huskies for the 2024-25 college basketball season. At the time, her future with the program was uncertain with the WNBA draft fast approaching.
"I know everybody wants me to address the elephant in the room. Unfortunately, this will not be my last Senior Night here at UConn because I'm coming back," Bueckers said.
In an on-court interview later, Bueckers explained that she still has more to give to UConn.
"I’m not done yet here. I feel like God is still writing my story here. I'm just blessed to be a part of this program and I never want it to end," Bueckers said.
Bueckers also explained how injuries played a role in her decision to return to UConn for her senior year. She missed the entire 2022-23 season after suffering an ACL tear in her left knee in August 2022. She subsequently redshirted that season and received an extra year of NCAA eligibility.
