One of Paige Bueckers' most famous best friends is her former teammate and Seattle Storm rookie, Nika Muhl. The two guards are extremely close, with Bueckers even calling Muhl her sister and twin. However, when it comes to surviving a deserted island, it seems the UConn guard has more resourceful picks.
In an interview with Jerzy Robinson for Gatorade, Paige Bueckers was asked to name two teammates she would take on a deserted island. She replied:
"K K (Arnold). Because, no matter what we're going through on the island, we're gonna be having a good time. And I need somebody resourceful. My new teammate Kaitlyn Chen. She's a genius. She graduated from Princeton. So I feel like she would be smart in ways we could survive the island. Just like, be very resourceful."
KK Arnold wrapped up a great freshman season where she stepped up as the roster struggled with injuries. She averaged 8.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
Kaitlyn Chen, an incoming senior, also enjoyed an impressive year with the Princeton Tigers as she averaged 15.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.3 steals. She is widely considered to be Nika Muhl's replacement after the guard moved to the WNBA.
Paige Bueckers prepares to shoulder huge responsibility in the upcoming season
In UConn's run to the Final Four last season, Paige Bueckers, Nika Muhl and Aaliyah Edwards played a crucial role. However, in April, Edwards moved to the WNBA after she was selected No. 3 overall by the Washington Mystics. Muhl was the No. 14 pick.
As the Huskies prepare for the 2024-25 college season, Bueckers is aware of the huge responsibility on her shoulders.
"It's crazy. Because I feel like I don't have Nika, I don't have Aaliyah. So, it's really all on me. And it's mostly my responsibility. .... I'm the only one on the court right now. So, I'm taking that responsibility and I'm doing it with pride.
"I'm making sure that I'm leading these young guys, being a voice for them, leading them, teaching, communicating. And also leading by example in what I do on the court and off the court."
This will be Paige Bueckers' last season in Storrs as she is set to transition to the WNBA in 2025. She is already predicted to be the No. 1 pick in the draft.
