Paige Bueckers was in attendance at the WNBA All-Star game at Footprint Center, Phoenix on Saturday. Team USA, with Diana Taurasi, Kelsey Plum, A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart among others, took on Team WNBA, which had rookies Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Aliyah Boston and more.
Before the game tipped off, Bueckers was seen walking through the crowd in a red top and blue Nike puffer jacket with her hair in a slick bun. The UConn guard smiled and waved to fans as she made her way to her seat.
Here is the video:
In the middle of the game, Bueckers was seen chatting with Caitlin Clark. The two were rivals on the court less than three months ago when Clark's Iowa ended UConn's March Madness run in the Final Four round.
Fans have still not forgotten the last-minute illegal screen call on Aaliyah Edwards. Reacting to the two players sharing a hug, one fan joked:
"'That shouldn’t have been called an illegal screen on Aaliyah Edwards and you know it. It was all rigged' -Paige Bueckers to Caitlin Clark"
Bueckers also met with former UConn player Diana Taurasi before the game. The two were caught on video, hugging and talking to each other.
Despite the quality of the Olympics-bound Team USA, they lost 117-109 to Team WNBA. Caitlin Clark finished with four points and 10 assists.
Paige Bueckers prepares for her final season with the UConn Huskies
Paige Bueckers would have been a part of these celebrations since she was eligible to declare for the 2024 WNBA draft. However, since the guard missed an entire season due to an ACL injury, she decided to extend her stay at Storrs by another year.
It is expected that this will be Bueckers' last season with the Huskies. She could declare for the 2025 WNBA draft where she is the projected first overall pick.
“That's the plan,” Bueckers said (via CT Insider). “Again, I've learned not to speak on the future. You never know what can happen but as of right now that’s the plan.”
Before she leaves UConn, Paige Bueckers has one last quest to fulfill: the NCAA championship. With a strong roster and healthy players, the Huskies stand a good chance of taking the title home.
However, it is expected that they will face tough competition from the USC Trojans and South Carolina Gamecocks, who also have stacked rosters.
