The UConn Huskies have had a large number of talented players on both their men's and women's teams during the last few seasons. 2024 was no exception.

Having many talented players will lead to some of them becoming high draft picks. During the 2024 editions of both the NBA and WNBA draft, UConn was the only school to produce more than one draft pick in the top 15 of both drafts.

How did college basketball fans react to this achievement from the Huskies?

These fans believe that the University of Connecticut is the best basketball school in not just the country but the whole world.

"UCONN straight basketball school," wrote this fan.
"the basketball capital no question about it🥱🥱🥱" said this fan.
"Best basketball school in the country. Not even close," wrote another fan.
"We’re called the Basketball Capital of the World for a reason 💪" wrote this fan.

However, these fans have spotted a minor problem with the news, which could make the achievement of the UConn Huskies look a bit less spectacular.

"14th pick in the WNBA is the second round," wrote this fan.
"Tbh to me fair that #14 pick in the WNBA is a second rounder," said another fan.

This fan has also mentioned a team (or country in this case) that also needs as much attention as the Huskies. France had three top 10 draft picks in the NBA Draft, who all played in France, becoming the first foreign country to achieve this.

"France enters the chat," said this fan.

Finally, these fans have shown their dislike of statistics like this, and question how much they add to the average fan's knowledge.

"What a stupid statistic," wrote this fan.
"Thank you for more useless information," said this fan.

Which UConn Huskies were picked in the top 15?

The four players that made history for the Huskies program were:

  • Stephon Castle, the 4th pick in the NBA Draft, by the San Antonio Spurs
  • Donovan Clingan, the 7th pick in the NBA Draft, by the Portland Trail Blazers
  • Aaliyah Edwards, the 6th pick in the WNBA Draft, by the Washington Mystics
  • Nika Mühl, the 14th pick in the WNBA Draft, by the Seattle Storm

All four of these players helped the Huskies to great success. For the men, that was winning two consecutive national championships. For the women, it was making the final four this season.

Each of these players is talented enough to be able to have a strong and competitive playing career. Only time will tell if they live up to their billing.
