UConn center Jana El Alfy has shown her gratitude to teammate Paige Bueckers for her gesture. Bueckers is set to launch her Nike GT Hustle 3 PE Saturday Dec. 7.
Bueckers gifted her teammates some of her customized Nike Hustle 3. The moment was captured in a video, which Alfy shared on her Instagram story.
"BDB always spoiling us," she captioned the video.
Bueckers is in her final season of her collegiate career. She is projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA draft.
Paige Bueckers partners with Nike
Bueckers signed a deal with Nike and became the first NIL athlete to design and launch a Nike Player Edition basketball sneaker. The design is intended to boost her performance during the final season of her collegiate career.
“It’s definitely motivating to wear your own shoe,” Paige said per Nike. “I grew up wearing Nikes — all the signature shoes — so it’s surreal to have this Player Edition model. I just want to show out in it.”
The GT Hustle 3 was designed in Bueckers' favorite colors, baby blue and lavender purple, as a tribute to her roots. The sneaker features area codes from her hometown in Minnesota and her current home at UConn displayed in the left tongue, while the right tongue shows an embroidered bucket, in reference to her nickname "Buckets."
Bueckers' favorite part of the design is the inspirational message, written on the left heel, which she receives from her father before every game: “Be You, Be Great.”
“There are so many details that make this shoe special to me,” she said. “This is the perfect colorway for me: I love baby blue and lavender, and the Radial Knit makes me feel fly. My favorite detail is the message from my dad, and the tribute to both of my homes is so meaningful for my first Player Edition model.”
The GT Hustle 3 was created by women from the start, with female athletes involved in most of the silhouette’s testing and development. The Nike GT Hustle 3 Paige Bueckers Player Edition will be made publicly available on Saturday, Dec. 7.
