Livvy Dunne revealed the moment she started to gain social media followers

The New Jersey native has become a popular face in the world of college sports and also on social media. With over 13.6 million followers on social media, she's the second-highest NIL earner in college sports ($4 million as per On3 Sports).

In an exclusive interview with GQ in September, Livvy Dunne was asked when her social media following took off.

"When I was an elite gymnast, I think I had amassed about 100,000 followers on Instagram, just gymnastics fans. Then during quarantine, I got stuck at our condo in Florida and I just started posting content of me flipping around at the beach. I couldn't go anywhere to flip around.
"I couldn't go to a gym, so I was doing it at the beach. I guess people found joy in that in such a dark time. So I did an onodi—which is this one skill—and it got a million likes for the first time ever for me. Then my videos just kept picking up from there, and it just kind of all took off after quarantine."

Dunne also said that at LSU, as a student-athlete, she couldn't accept a free sweatshirt before the NIL ruling was passed. She thought that it was unfair but had to comply with the rules; otherwise, she would lose her NCAA eligibility. For her, NIL has been a great advantage for women athletes who don't play in professional leagues.
