Lindsay Gottlieb praised Rayah Marshall after the Trojans star joined an exclusive list of USC players who scored at least 1,000 points and grabbed at least 1,000 rebounds in their college careers. Gottlieb paid tribute to Marshall on her Instagram story on Monday.
Marshall is the eighth USC player to join that elite club, which includes the program's legendary stars such as Cheryl Miller, Pam McGee, Cherie Nelson, Lisa Leslie, Tina Thompson, Paula McGee and Ebony Hoffman. She achieved the feat in the USC Trojans' 92-42 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Sunday, collecting her 1,000th rebound during the rout.
Gottlieb took to social media following that win to share her thoughts about her player's feat. She shared an image that the USC women's basketball team's Instagram page used to congratulate Marshall on her historic achievement, adding a few words to put her personal touch.
"That is some company, @raybuckets_. You belong in this group. So proud of you," Gottlieb wrote.
Rayah Marshall delivers for Lindsay Gottlieb as USC Trojans record 10th straight win
The No. 4 USC Trojans remained on fire during their weekend trip to New Jersey, crushing the Rutgers Scarlet Knights by 50 points to extend their winning streak to 10 games. Three players scored in double figures for the Trojans, who have won all but one of their 15 games this season.
JuJu Watkins recorded her first double-double since USC's season-opener against the Ole Miss Rebels on Nov. 4, scoring 23 points and grabbing a career-high 14 boards against Rutgers. She shot 8-for-23 from the field, including 3-for-9 from beyond the arc.
Kennedy Smith showed her two-way talent, recording 19 points and six steals in 21 minutes of action. Kiki Iriafen also contributed, scoring 14 points and collecting eight rebounds. Rayah Marshall came close to recording her third double-double of the season, amassing nine points and 10 rebounds.
The Trojans wreaked havoc against the Scarlet Knights, who suffered their worst home defeat in school history. They struggled without Kiyomi McMiller, who controversially did not see action. The Rutgers star posted a message on Instagram before the game, saying coach Coquese Washington decided to bench her for the Big Ten clash.
