JuJu Watkins, Kiki Iriafen and the USC Trojans are preparing for the new season with renewed hope after last year's Elite Eight exit. During their recent media day, the Trojans participated in a TikTok video where they shared their red flag tendencies in a romantic relationship.
The segment revealed that JuJu Watkins is a "TOO nonchalant" while for Kiki Iriafen, it was that "nobody knows where she is". Overtime posted the video on Instagram and wrote in the caption:
"Feeling EXPOSED on their behalf 😭"
The Trojans' Elite Eight appearance was historic, as this was their first deep run in the NCAA Tournament in 30 years. Despite the loss, USC coach Lindsay Gottlieb took home notes for improvement, which she shared with 247Sports in April.
“We feel like a rocket ship. We feel like this is just the beginning of something,” Gottlieb said. “We're kind of taking the time to really appreciate what we did this year, and all the moments we got to celebrate and all the cool things we did together.”
“We took a lot of steps with our offense this year with spacing and being able to put pressure on the defense and being difficult to guard. But we're not standing pat. We want to get better. We want to be more up tempo. We want to be able to have multiple options on every play,”
Kiki Iriafen's addition makes USC Trojans instant championship contenders
After three years at Stanford, Kiki Iriafen made the move to USC in the offseason. This, along with the addition of former Oregon State guard Talia Von Oelhoffen and the No. 1 recruiting class (per ESPN) makes the Trojans the biggest threat to any team with championship hopes.
Trojans Wire's Matt Zemek broke down how Kiki Iriafen addition has significantly increased the USC Trojans' run to the NCAA championship.
"She has a polished, consistent mid-range game," Zemek wrote. "This is where the USC offense is going to significantly improve. She has the mid-range component in her game and can also drive by defenders to create shots.
"Iriafen has more ways to attack and offers more quickness — including on the dribble — as an offensive threat. This is a specific kind of player USC lacked last season. Iriafen will fill that gap."
In addition to this, the Trojans have also moved conferences as they are now set to play in Big Ten. All these factors could help JuJu Watkins lead USC on a deeper postseason run.
