South Carolina coach Dawn Staley has always been one to use her platform to inspire and uplift women, whether it's through her coaching, her charity work or her fashion choices. Staley was recently featured in Nike's 'The Look of Victory' gallery exhibition in New York.
On Wednesday, the three time national champion coach shared her experience participating in the event at Broome Street, on her Instagram.
"Victory is more than just you. Shoutout to @nikewomen for a great experience at “The Look of Victory” celebrating women in sports. A bigger shoutout to @l_enchanteur for a medallion that will Keep It Tight……forever be around my neck and engrained in my heart."
Staley was dressed in Nike's green tracksuit and met with several other athletes from different sports who came together to celebrate the brand's latest collection.
Nike Women's Instagram account shared a series of photos showing Staley alongside UConn phenom Paige Bueckers, Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles and Grammy-winning singer Tyla.
At the Nike event, Dawn Staley was honored with a special medallion made by fashion designers Dynasty and Soull Ogun from L’Enchanteur. The medallion was displayed alongside 70 shiny medals and trophies.
President Biden praises Dawn Staley during honoring ceremony
Dawn Staley and her South Carolina women's team arrived in Washington, D.C. for a visit with President Joe Biden and to celebrate their national championship win.
This is the Staley's first visit to the White House, having refused the invitation following her previous two NCAA successes. South Carolina went on an undefeated 38-0 record last season winning every tournament they competed in.
During the honoring ceremony on Tuesday, President Biden showered Staley with praise, highlighting her achievements and the impact she has had on women's basketball.
"All of those of you who hold public office in South Carolina, you better hope she keeps coaching and doesn’t run," Biden said. "I think it's fair to say everyone, everyone watches women's sports now. When new fans watch for the first time, when young girls see their idols, they see the power of your example.
"Coach Staley, when you took this job, Carolyn Peck ... she gave you a piece of a net from the title game. All she asked you was to pay it forward, and that's what you've done. After your first title game, you send a piece of the net to every Black woman head coach in Division I basketball. That network is your legacy," he added.
Dawn Staley felt proud as she and her team had a memorable day meeting with the President. She said she wanted to use the experience to teach her players and motivate them for the future.
