Dawn Staley, the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks, attended the match between Aaliyah Chavez's CY Fair and Kia Nurse Elite. The top-ranked senior made a spectacular impression by scoring 35 points.

Chavez was on fire, leading her team to a 27-point victory while sinking an impressive 9 three-pointers. The performance highlighted her incredible talent and drew significant attention from Staley.

While talking to On3 Sports, Chavez revealed she likes the Ohio State Buckeyes but she also said that she has kept some schools in her mix of options:

"I got recruited by Ohio State very young in eighth grade, so I’m definitely just keeping them in the mix because I do talk to them a lot still and they have a great program," Chavez said. "They’re high energy every time I talk to them."

Chavez averaged a whopping 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 3.5 steals per game.

Dawn Staley named her frontrunner for the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award

The former Iowa star Caitlin Clark and her college rival, Angel Reese, are the two WNBA rookies who are battling against each other for the Rookie of the Year Award. The two-star rookies are enjoying a successful season in their respective teams.

Reese averages 11.8 rebounds per game, while Clark leads the rookie scoreboard with 16.8 points per game. Clark has also set numerous records such as becoming the first rookie to record 400 points, 150 assists, and 100 rebounds. When asked about who should be named the Rookie of the Year, Dawn Staley said that Angel Reese is the clear winner.

She said, as per TMZ:

"They both are having great years, don’t get me wrong. If I had to pick a Rookie of the Year at this time, today... it’s Angel. Not a doubt. [Because of] what she’s been able to do with the double-doubles."

Staley's South Carolina Gamecocks squad defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes and Caitlin Clark. After the NCAAW championship game, she thanked Clark for giving her team the opportunity to play in from of over 18 million people.

Dawn Staley did clarify that the players are still early in the season and that she can definitely see Caitlin Clark overtaking Reese down the line.
