After the 82-46 win over Charleston Southern, Bree Hall and the rest of the South Carolina roster began their Christmas break. They will be returning to their hometowns and get back together next week.
Before leaving, Hall celebrated the break, dancing with Arkansas transfer Maryan Dauda as more players joined in later. She shared the video via her Instagram stories on Thursday and wrote:
"Hooray for Christmas break."
Bree Hall is playing her senior season with the Gamecocks and is averaging 6.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.8 steals. The guard has had inconsistent performances along with some more South Carolina players and coach Dawn Staley addressed this late last month.
“Sometimes, it happens. I do know that this is a real thing.” Staley said. “When we have our WNBA-eligible players, sometimes, it happens during the season at some point. It hasn’t happened this early. And maybe that’s not what they’re thinking about, but I’m sure they are thinking about it.
"It makes you press, and it gets you out of your normal routine of focusing on the game. Your focus becomes something else.”
Staley admitted to having positively encouraging conversations with the players, helping them overcome their slump and contribute better.
"You gotta take the shots that you take in practice without getting sped up. If you’re taking your normal catch-and-shoot shot, she’s good, Staley said about Hall. "She’s more than efficient. But she gets sped up and starts shooting faster. All the motions are faster. She’s not very efficient. It’s simple.”
Bree Hall's on-court struggles continue as Gamecocks take home victories
After Dawn Staley's intervention, Bree Hall played her best against East Carolina and Purdue, where she scored in the double digits. She even shared her thoughts on how the conversations helped her perform better.
“My God, it felt great. Definitely felt great,” Hall said. “Before, in the other games, I was really pressing to get the ball in and not letting myself just catch and shoot and shoot it with ease like I usually do. I just felt good to see those go down.”
However, besides those games, Hall has been struggling to put up numbers. While her teammates' contributions have pushed the team to win games, the senior guard will have to step up. She is averaging 6.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
Bree Hall and the UConn Huskies will return to action on Dec. 29 when they take on Wofford.
