UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers is almost universally liked across different women's college basketball fanbases despite the sectarian nature of college sports. This is mostly due to the combination of her brilliance on the court and her outgoing personality off it.

Most recently, the 'Overtime WBB' Instagram page showcased her popularity in a post of a clip of students in a hallway watching edits of the UConn star on their devices. The caption along with that read:

"I swear Paige has the craziest fan base 😭 @paigebueckers (via liapunzalan/TT)."

What is behind Paige Bueckers and her renewed popularity?

UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers has never been a stranger to popularity. She was the first female player to be featured on the cover of the renowned basketball magazine 'SLAM' as a Hopkins High School player.

During her very first season in Storrs as part of the UConn Huskies, Bueckers swept all the individual honors on offer. She took college basketball by storm, cementing her legacy as one of the most gifted freshmen in women's basketball.

Over the years, perhaps some luster has been lost from her glowing achievements due to her two serious season-ending ACL injuries that kept her out of the spotlight.

She rebounded last year with a stellar season but where her popularity rebounded was not for her efforts on the court. Paige Bueckers opted to remain at UConn for a final year even as her best friends, guard Nika Muhl and forward Aliyah Edwards, departed for the WNBA.

On April 15, during WNBA Draft night, Bueckers wore a stunning white suit to the ceremony to support her friends. She was caught on camera cheering them on like a proud mother hen and the internet loved it.

Before the Final Four clash against the Iowa Hawkeyes, Bueckers explained the bond that the trio shares.

“Nika and Aaliyah are like my sisters. They're my bridesmaids. I want them to be like my kids’ godparents, like godmoms,” Bueckers said. “We've built such a strong relationship ever since we came into UConn together as freshmen and it means everything to be here, especially with all the blows we were dealt.
“The adversity that we went through to really come together and find strength within each other and lead this group of freshmen here to the Final Four."

Paige Bueckers is perhaps the most recognizable face in women's college basketball and a national championship win next year would cement her legacy.
