Shelomi Sanders is in her red-shirt junior year with the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. She has already spent more time on court with the Bulldogs (12 games) than her career before it (7). With the increased action, Sanders has put in the time at the gym to prepare herself.
On Monday, Shelomi gave fans a peek into her training via her Instagram story. She reshared a video from her trainer's account which read:
"Back in lab after game."
Shelomi Sanders' move to Alabama A&M was not welcomed by her father, Deion Sanders, who called it stupid. While tensions were high for a while, Sanders revealed in September that she had patched things up with the Colorado football coach.
"You know, he is my dad and he's also a coach, so I think that's why he kind of just had a reaction like that," she said. "But we handled and discussed things behind closed doors so it's all good now."
In an Instagram Live, Shelomi revealed the reason behind the move, calling her time in Colorado sad.
"For me, I would say, yeah, last year during the beginning where I just came home sad every day," Sanders said. "It just wasn't good energy, wasn't good vibes, wasn't enough being poured into me as a player... it was just bad. But I'm good now," she added.
Shelomi Sanders finds a home with the Bulldogs
Shelomi Sanders is averaging 1.3 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists. She had her career-high scoring performance during the Bulldogs' exhibition game against Oakwood, finishing with 14 points and one assist. In the regular season, she scored six points and collected two rebounds against the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers.
At the time of her transfer, Alabama A&M coach Dawn Thornton praised Shelomi Sanders, saying (via Clarion Ledger):
"Shelomi is just what we need on 'The Hill.' Not only does she want to make a name for herself, but we also have the platform and the resources for her to do it. She is well-known for her game behind the arc, and I love big guards that can score the ball.
"She has great athleticism and will make it very hard for teams to zone us. Shelomi's commitment and determination will send her potential through the roof.”
Sanders and the Alabama A&M Bulldogs will play their next game against Mississippi Valley State on Thursday.
