Duke commit Cooper Flagg and his brother Ace returned to Maine to host a kids' basketball camp on Saturday. The brothers were born and raised in Maine.
Flagg was the top basketball recruit in the class of 2024 and will likely be the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft.
Kids in Grades 1 to 6 got the opportunity to learn basketball from Cooper and Ace.
"I think it's really important to just to give back to the community that we came from," Cooper said to NewsCenter Maine. ... "I mean, it's been great to see all the kids and see how their faces kind of light up with smiles and stuff like that. It's just been great to interact and talk to the next generation."
Cooper will be going to Duke next season, while Ace is finishing up his last year of high school basketball at Greensboro Day School in North Carolina.
At the end of the sessions, they gave the kids some advice.
"Just never give up. If you want something, you can always make it happen. You just got to go fight for it and work every day," Ace said.
"If you really want it bad enough, you just got to work really hard and put something into it every day, and just try to get better every day," Cooper said.
Cooper Flagg was a five-star recruit, and Ace is a three-star recruit in the class of 2025 and hasn't made a commitment.
Cooper Flagg was part of Team USA's training camp for Olympics
Team USA basketball invited Cooper Flagg to the training camp as they were preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Flagg was the lone non-NBA player in the camp.
“I was shocked, I was surprised, and I was really excited for this opportunity,” Flagg said (h/t Yahoo Sports). ... "I was really grateful to come out and learn. That was the biggest thing for me, just being able to learn and grow, to share a gym with all of these great, great names. Legends. So, I’m just truly blessed.”
The Duke Blue Devils will open its season on Nov. 4 against the Maine Black Bears.
