Flau'jae Johnson is on a roll this season as she led the LSU Tigers to an 85-57 win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday. The guard finished with 11 points, two rebounds, two steals and two blocks as the Tigers recorded their 12th straight victory.
Johnson made two attempts from the 3-point line, one of which went through. The guard's fan page shared the moment on Instagram with the caption:
"Big 4️⃣ buzzer beater to end the third quarter."
Flau'jae Johnson was part of the championship-winning squad in 2023 and came close last season before the Elite Eight loss. This year, the guard has set winning the championship as her goal.
"I really wanna win the national championship," she said in an interview with Sports Illustrated. "I felt it before but I wanna lead my team to win. Like I feel like if I don't win another championship, it's gonna be a failure for me. I like to just shoot for the moon and work really hard and try to see where I land."
Flau'jae Johnson creates history with Unrivaled
After Paige Bueckers, Flau'jae Johnson became the second college athlete to sign a NIL deal with the 3x3 women's basketball league, Unrivaled. For now, the guard will take on a promotional role as she plays for the NCAA.
In an interview with Fox Sports News, Johnson explained the importance of the league for the future of women's basketball. Historically, WNBA players were forced to seek employment abroad during the offseason to help add to their insufficient salaries from the league.
"Leagues like this, women don’t have to go overseas anymore," she said. "Now, they could stay home, be playing in Miami where the sky is beautiful and collect a check. I think it’s so important what they’re doing – they’re really changing the game.
"Being somebody that’s going to be in the WNBA soon, having another option, this is big. This is big for the women, the girls coming up in high school, the girls coming up in college, it’s just big for women’s sports in general."
Flau'jae Johnson's involvement in the league came through Breanna Stewart, one of the founders of Unrivaled. The New York Liberty forward and Johnson are signed to Puma.
Unrivaled will begin its first season in January 2025. Johnson is eligible for the WNBA draft in 2026.
