A huge game awaits Flau'jae Johnson and the No. 5 LSU Tigers as they take on the reigning national champions, South Carolina Gamecocks. Her mother, Kia Brooks, is excited for the matchup and made her energy known on social media.
Brooks posted a throwback video on Instagram hours before the game on Friday, showing a 16-year-old Johnson freestyling in the car. Considering the attention on the matchup, it makes sense why she posted this video of her daughter, as she explained in the post.
"It’s GAME DAY!! And in 2021 at only 16 this is how Flau'jae felt ,so I know she feel the same way today!!“I REMEMBER THEY TOLD ME I COULD NOT DO IT AND I DID IT," Brooks said in the post caption.
Flau'jae Johnson noted big difference about South Carolina
The stakes of this matchup are big, as Flau'jae Johnson understood before the game began. She discussed the game in an episode of the "Best of Both Worlds with Flau'jae Johnson" podcast, noting a key difference about the Gamecocks and highlighting the excitement from both fan bases.
"Everybody is really excited about this game, especially on Twitter, our fan base, their fan base, but we're a new team, like we are a totally different team. So I don't know, I think we're different from them. And I feel like they're the same team, but they're different as well. So it's gonna be a good battle," Johnson said at the 6:19 mark.
"They ain't got no seven-footer just sitting in the paint now. So, you know, it ain't gonna be like that. That was the biggest challenge, bro. Like, they definitely got rim protectors this year, not gonna lie."
LSU enters this matchup with a perfect 20-0 record, having won their first five games in conference play. They are averaging 90.6 points on 48.9% shooting from the field and 33.2% from beyond the arc, blowing out teams by a margin of 28.4 points per game.
After this game, the No. 5 Tigers will be back home to host the Texas A&M Aggies at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. ET.
