Former Duke players Jared McCain and Dereck Lively II dropped by the Coach K Center to meet the Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer on Friday. The Duke's Instagram handle shared a video of the reunion on its story.

Dereck Lively II, a top recruit of his 2022 class, chose Duke over Kentucky, Michigan and Penn State. He averaged 5.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 2.4 blocks. He was picked No. 12 by the Oklahoma City Thunder but was traded to the Dallas Mavericks later in July.

Jared McCain played a crucial role last season as he led Duke to the Elite Eight. He averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals. McCain was one of the most sought-after prospects and was picked No. 16 by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Jon Scheyer is developing his new roster after the portal exodus

While Jared McCain and Kyle Filipowski left Duke for the NBA, a large number of players also exited the team despite the Elite Eight run. Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster were the only players who stayed and with them, Jon Scheyer has built his new team.

In an interview with the "Raleigh News & Observer," the coach shared his approach to the rebuilding.

“Ultimately, we needed a group that was completely all in to Duke basketball and to winning and to competing at the level that we needed to in order to accomplish what we want this year,” Scheyer said.

The new roster has six freshman recruits and four graduate seniors. Despite the experience, the players were to be assessed on their skills.

"There wasn’t going to be promises or assurances for anybody in terms of guaranteed minutes or guaranteed starting,” Scheyer said. “Our programs are built on competition. And we’re doubling down on that at a time where the environment makes you or puts you in a position to promise things.
"Our promise is to give you everything we have as a coaching staff and our entire support staff.”

There is heavy expectation on the new roster, which is set to be centered around 2024 class No. 1 recruit, Cooper Flagg.
