Former UConn Huskies duo Aaliyah Edwards and Dorka Juhász shared a warm embrace after the Washinton Mystics vs. Minnesota Lynx game on Saturday. The Mystics' Twitter account posted a picture and a short clip of the two enjoying their moment together postgame. Edwards ran toward her former teammate and shared a hug.
"That UConnWBB connection," the Mystics tweeted.
Minnesota won the game 74-67, Aaliyah Edwards scored 10 points and had 2 rebounds. Meanwhile, Juhász managed two points and grabbed eleven rebounds to help her team win. Despite the battle on the court, as the final buzzer sounded, they made their way toward each other for the UConn reunion.
Edwards and Juhász played together for two seasons at Connecticut. They teamed up with Paige Bueckers under head coach Geno Auriemma and won both the Big East regular season and tournament trophies in 2022. The Huskies also reached the championship final that year but lost to South Carolina.
Similarly, the 2022-23 season also saw the duo of Aliyah Edwards and Dorka Juhász as they guided UConn to its third straight Big East glory winning the regular season and tournament. Edwards was named the 2023 Big East Tournament MVP and also earned a selection to the First-team All-Big East. Meanwhile, Juhász was named to the Second-team All-Big East.
Aaliyah Edwards makes Team Canada's roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics
Aaliyah Edwards, a 6-foot-3 Kingston, Ontario native, has been provided a golden opportunity to serve her country in the prestigious Olympics game. On July 2, Canada Basketball announced its squad for the women's team to compete in the 2024 Olympics.
It is a rare incident for WNBA rookies to earn a place on their country's Olympic roster. However, Mystics forward Aaliyah Edwards' inclusion on the list was not surprising because she also made the team years ago in the 2020 Olympics. After her selection to the national team, Edwards took to Twitter and shared a quote from the bible.
"“For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.' -Jeremiah 29:11.'"
Edwards barely played any minutes in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but this time should be different because she is one of the top rookies in the WNBA. In 19 matches, She averaged 8.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
Besides Edwards, former Huskies Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Kia Nurse, and Napheesa Collier are also heading to the Paris Olympics with their respective teams.
