There are many creative ways to take ideas from the classics and modernize them. Hannah Hidalgo and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish certainly had this idea when it came to putting something for the holidays.

Notre Dame uploaded a video to its YouTube channel on Monday. It was titled "How Hannah Stole the Ball: A Notre Dame Women's Basketball Christmas Story with Hannah Hidalgo," taking inspiration from the iconic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" story made by acclaimed author Dr. Seuss.

In the video, Hidalgo read a book that details her ability to steal the ball from opponents, speaking in true Dr. Seuss fashion.

"Every team on the court dribbled fast, dribble slow, but I, Hannah Hidalgo, knew where they'd go," Hidalgo said.
"I've heard the whispers. I've read the tweets. She's next to the ball like she's got sticky tweets. But really my secret, no magic, no tricks. It's my hustle, my instincts and my defensive kicks. Oh, it's fearless. Let me tell you the deal to sweat the ball clean and take our hope to steal."

Hannah Hidalgo receives praise from Sue Bird

Hannah Hidalgo's play for Notre Dame hasn't gone unnoticed, especially from WNBA legend Sue Bird. Bird talked about the Fighting Irish star during an episode of the "A Touch More" podcast, praising her and the team's backcourt for their activity on the court.

"When you have guards like that — like Hannah Hidalgo, like Olivia Miles — their fingerprints are going to be all over that team. And, yeah, you can't really talk about this (UConn) game without talking about Hannah," Bird said. "She balled the f*** out: 29 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in front of some Notre Dame greats. ... So, yeah, you can't say enough about Hannah.
“If I had to put in an early vote for player of the year, it’s probably Hannah. I mean, how can it not be? The numbers she's putting up, the ways in which she's helping her team win games, the big buckets she's getting. Can't say enough about her play."

After 12 games, Hidalgo is averaging 25.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.3 and 3.8 assists on 49.8% shooting, including 44.6% from beyond the arc. Her standout displays have elevated Notre Dame to being ranked third in the AP Top 25 while boasting a 10-2 record with an ongoing five-game winning streak.

Hidalgo and Notre Dame will have one more matchup to conclude the 2024 calendar year, hosting the Virginia Cavaliers at the Purcell Pavilion in South Bend, Indiana, on Sunday at noon ET.
