Lucy Olsen has quickly become a fan-favorite at Iowa. Tasked with the difficult role of replacing the mercurial Caitlin Clark, Olsen has dazzled the Carver-Hawkeye Arena with some incredible displays. She has played a key part in the new era of Iowa's women's basketball program.
While she transferred to Iowa ahead of this season, she has not forgotten her friends and support staff at Villanova, where she established herself as one of the top guards. Earlier on Monday, Olsen took to TikTok to give her followers, which currently stands at over 33,000, a special surprise with her latest video.
Olsen engaged in one of the popular 'knock-knock' trends on the social media platform, for which she reunited with her younger sister, Lila. The 'surprise guest' in the video was Rachel Grace, who ended the five-second video with a twirl.
Grace, known as "RG" to those familiar with Villanova's women's basketball program, has held the position of head manager at the Wildcats for five years. She has emerged as a popular face in the program, with her immense energy and larger-than-life personality.
This February, Villanova head coach Denise Dillon explained the importance of Grace in empowering her players to make their voices heard.
"We are trying to empower our young women to use their voices and be heard and not shy away," said Dillon. "RG sets that tone for all of them and is the example."
Lucy Olsen enjoyed a breakout junior season at Villanova
Lucy Olsen had massive shoes to fill in her junior season with the Wildcats after the Dallas Wings star forward Maddy Siegrist became the third overall pick in the 2023 WNBA draft. Olsen passed the test with flying colors, finishing the season as the third-highest scorer in the nation with an average of 23.3 points.
She also averaged 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists and was named the Most Improved Player in the Big East. She also earned a unanimous selection in the All-Big East team and the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Year for her impressive performances.
Lucy Olsen has made a solid start to her first season at Iowa, starting all but two of the Hawkeyes' 12 games so far. Across those games, she has averaged 18.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.1 assists, emerging as a key leader in the Hawkeyes' backcourt.
