Miami Hurricanes guard Haley Cavinder showed off her exceptional skills, leading the Hurricanes with a game-high 25 points in their 84-53 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack on Friday.
In an Instagram post, the Hurricanes basketball account posted a reel of game actions showing Haley Cavinder’s ability to create space for a jump shot.
Haley Cavinder posted a double-double putting up 25 points and 12 rebounds, while creating seven assists. This was Cavinder’s second consecutive double-double after her outstanding 22 points and 11 rebounds against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Dec. 15.
Cavinder's performance was marked by impressive shooting efficiency, as she shot 11 of 16 field goal attempts.
Cavinder’s defensive tenacity also played a role in limiting the Wolf Pack's scoring by contributing with 10 defensive rebounds.
Cavinder has averaged 18.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and shooting 49.7% from the floor, with her versatility being instrumental in Miami's impressive 9-1 start to the season.
When Tricia Cullop and teammates commented on Haley Cavinder’s work ethic
When Haley and Hanna Cavinder decided to return to the University of Miami women’s basketball team after a year-long break, coach Tricia Cullop welcomed them with open arms.
The twins helped lead the Hurricanes to the Elite Eight in 2023 under previous coach Katie Meier.
Tricia Cullop took over the Miami program after building a winning legacy at the University of Toledo.
“Haley and Hanni are two of the hardest workers I’ve ever coached or played with," Cullop said. "That’s saying a lot because I played with All-Americans.”
She lauded the Cavinder twins on their tireless work ethic. Most mornings, they are in the gym early, and they constantly study game film to improve their performance.
“They have an extreme hunger to be better, and they set the bar really high for the rest of the players,” Cullop said.
“When your best players are your hardest workers, you have something special.”
Miami teammate Cam Williams also acknowledged she quickly grew to admire them as teammates after training with the duo.
“They’re the hardest workers you’ll ever meet,” Williams said. “They’ve done an amazing job setting the standard for this program and showing the younger players that we’re here to win.”
The Cavinder twins’ return has brought excitement, discipline and leadership to the Miami program. Their commitment to excellence both on and off the court is setting a strong foundation for the Hurricanes.
