Hanna Cavinder is back in the groove in her final college season with the Miami Hurricanes. The guard is doing the rounds after her incredible pass during Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Five minutes into the second quarter, MaKayla Elmore missed her 3-point jumper and Haley Cavinder took the rebound. She passed to her twin, Hanna, who then sent the ball through four Pittsburgh players to Natalija Marshall. The run ended with a bucket, and Miami shared this moment on Instagram.
"Unreal pass from Hanna to Nat for the bucket 🔥," the caption read.
The Hurricanes won 62-56 and Hanna Cavinder finished with eight points, five rebounds and six assists. She is averaging 8.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists this season. This is an improvement from her senior season with Miami, when she finished with 3.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
After this disappointing season, Hanna Cavinder decided to quit playing basketball and chose to venture into business. She was even looking at a potential WWE debut. The guard spoke about this on the Dr. Phil show earlier this year.
"There was a time in my life that I was at the lowest point. And obviously, social media doesn't help with that," Cavinder said. "I think for me, personally, stepping away, it was definitely about my mental health.
"I definitely went through a year of mentally taxing. I think I was just done with it. I think I grew other passions outside of basketball and I was kind of ready to tie up the shoes."
Now, back in Miami, Hanna Cavinder is showing progress as she works with her twin, Haley, to end their college career on a high note.
Haley and Hanna Cavinder set a great start for Elite Eight hopes
During their previous run with the Hurricanes, Haley and Hanna Cavinder led the team to its first Elite Eight appearance. With this season, a similar run is expected from them as Miami coach, Tricia Cullop said:
“They both are so talented, have great work ethic, they have a great history here. I’m thrilled to have both of them back. They were both part of the Elite Eight experience, and that’s a goal for us."
The Hurricanes are on a 9-1 run and will next face Nevada on Thursday. The game is set to tip off at Seabury Hall in Makawao, Hawaii as part of the Maui Classic.
