Aaliyah Chavez, the 2025 class' No. 1 recruit, is inching closer to revealing her final college choice. The guard shared her top six schools in the summer, which included Texas, Texas Tech, LSU, South Carolina, UCLA and Oklahoma.
On Saturday, the Texas Longhorns took on the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and Aaliyah Chavez was present at the game. She posted a clip of the stadium to her Instagram story and wrote:
"Hook em???"

Chavez is yet to reveal her choice, but it was reported on Tuesday that Texas is the frontrunner to land the five-star guard. She said on including the program in her list:
"They were one of my first offers too, so just keeping them in. They’re close to home. They recruit me well. I think I talk to them almost every day, and they always have high energy.”
With her set to play her senior season at Monterey High School, all eyes are on Aaliyah Chavez to see how she wraps her final year. She averaged 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 35 games last season.
Aaliyah Chavez shared her criteria for final choice and the importance of representation
Aaliyah Chavez has already made her visits to her top six schools and is expected to share her choice in the coming months. When asked about the criteria for choosing her final destination by On3, Chavez said:
"I don’t want a coach that’s low energy, and I need to make sure that they’re going to be there the whole time. I don’t want a coach that’s just going to be there for two years… I want them to be there all four years."
Chavez's incredible skills on the court have drawn comparisons with many women's basketball players, with The Washington Post calling her the next Caitlin Clark. However, the guard is not interested in comparisons.
“I don’t like being compared to anybody,” she said. “I don’t want to be the next anybody. I want to be the first Aaliyah Chavez.”
Chavez is also one of the few players of Hispanic origin in Texas and understands the importance of her role within the community.
“You don’t see a lot of people that look like me out here,” Chavez said. “I’m just trying to do it for the Mexican community and for any kids who may not think they can do this.”
