WATCH: Paige Bueckers rolls on the court in pain after nasty collision as crowd goes into pin-drop silence

Paige Bueckers limped to the locker room during the seventh-ranked Huskies' 83-52 win at Villanova on Sunday. She trailed a loose ball in the final minutes of the third quarter as UConn led 63-37. However, as the guard attempted to pick up the basketball, the back of her knee came in Wildcats' Jasmine Bascoe's line of dive.

Bueckers immediately fell to the hardwood, rolling on the floor and tending to her leg. As the crowd at Finneran Pavilion went silent, Bueckers questioned the nature of the play and got up to head towards the locker room without any help.

Paige Bueckers posted 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting before the injury. She was an assist away from garnering just her second double-double of the season and also had three steals.

The UConn guard suffered a tibial plateau injury at the start of her sophomore year, limiting her to 17 games in the 2021-22 season. She also suffered an ACL injury in 2022 summer, forcing her to miss the entire season.

Due to her history, one of Paige Bueckers' primary focuses has been staying healthy. She has changed her diet and sleep schedule and incorporated pilates and strength training into her daily regime.

Geno Auriemma is optimistic about Paige Bueckers' injury

UConn coach Geno Auriemma addressed the concerns around his star guard after the Huskies (13-2, 4-0 Big East) defeated Villanova (7-8, 1-2).

Nevertheless, he said that Paige Beuckers' situation is not the worst-case scenario for the program, hinting that the guard avoided any major injuries.

"She just had some ice on it right now," Auriemma said. "And it's like when I said about Azzi (Fudd) about these freaky things happen when somebody runs into you. So, like it was Azzi, it's not the worst thing that we can imagine. So, that's great news, considering how awkward it was."

Azzi Fudd suffered a knee sprain while battling a screen against Louisville on Dec. 7. The sharpshooter immediately headed back to the locker room and returned to action after two weeks against the USC Trojans on Dec. 21.
