UConn Huskies coach Geno Auriemma is on the lookout for his next big star and his search took him to Minneapolis. Last Saturday, Auriemma was spotted at the Nike EYBL game as North Tartan's Maddyn Greenway led the team with 23 points and 8 assists.
The Providence Academy's guard is considered one of the top prospects in the 2026 recruiting class and has created much interest with her performances.
In her sophomore year with Providence, Maddyn Greenway averaged 34.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game. In the state championship finals, the guard finished with 27 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, leading the Lions to a third Class AA title. She scored her 3,000th career point in February.
The daughter of former Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway, Maddyn has athletics in her genes and is set to make great strides in her sport. Her father, a former Iowa Hawkeyes player, was a first-round draft pick, spent eleven seasons in the NFL and was a two-time Pro Bowler.
Maddyn Greenway's mother, Jenni, was also an athlete at the University of Iowa, excelling in track. The 5-foot-8 guard has followed in her footsteps and participates in track along with soccer.
"She competes really hard," Chad said (via Yahoo Sports). "Her plan is to continue to play three sports," he added.
Maddyn Greenway has received an offer from her father's alum along with Kentucky, UCLA, Tennessee, Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa State, Wisconsin, South Dakota State and Maryland. It is expected that coach Geno Auriemma's visit could be followed with an offer as well.
A look at Geno Auriemma's 2024-25 UConn Huskies roster
While coach Auriemma may be on the search for his star, his team is also preparing hard for the upcoming season. After a historic Final Four trip with an injury-riddled roster, Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies are back with healthy players and a few important additions.
2025 No. 1 recruit Sarah Strong is expected to make her debut in the fall, along with Allie Ziebell and Morgan Cheli. Geno Auriemma has signed Kaitlyn Chen to the team, and she is predicted to be Nika Muhl's replacement.
The roster is much stronger than the previous years and fans are hoping that they end the UConn women's championship drought. They last won a championship in 2016 and with Paige Bueckers' expected departure to the WNBA next season, a title win is crucial.
