UConn basketball held its annual First Night event on Friday, and Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd made a grand entrance that had fans go wild. Bueckers walked out for her last First Night at Gampel Pavilion as the arena erupted in cheer.
UConn shared clips on its Instagram story of every player being announced and walking out, but the standout was the reception for the senior guard as she took the floor.
"One last time," the caption read.
Paige Bueckers came out in style, dressed in UConn's away uniform and wearing dark blue sunglasses to match. As the Minnesota native walked to take center stage, she waved to the heavily partisan crowd with a smile. She blew kisses to her fans and made a heart shape with her hands to show her appreciation.
UConn also posted a POV video of Bueckers making the entrance which showed just how loud the arena got as she came out:
Azzi Fudd, a junior shooting guard, also received a warm welcome as she walked out.
"Azzi Fudd in the building," UConn basketball account posted on its Instagram story.
In the video, Fudd, who hails from Arlington, Virginia, walked out donning a home uniform with shades. She showed off some dance moves while walking to the stage as the crowd cheered even louder.
Several newcomers also made their Gampel Pavilion debut, including graduate transfer Kaitlyn Chen and freshmen Sarah Strong, Morgan Cheli and Allie Ziebell, who all received loud applauses as they made their way to the center court.
Geno Auriemma compares Paige Bueckers to Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian
Paige Bueckers has maintained a fun and friendly relationship with coach Geno Auriemma, with the two often exchanging witty remarks and banter.
Earlier this summer Bueckers compared Auriemma to Carl Fredricksen's character from the movie "Up." On Friday, Auriemma cracked a joke on Bueckers talking about her summer excursions.
"I vary from calling her Paige Swift or Paige Kardashian because she's everywhere, but people don't see the work she’s put in," Auriemma said.
Paige Bueckers showed up at almost every major sports event in the country in the offseason, which led many to wonder if she was missing her training to attend those events.
"I had a pretty good summer. I enjoyed it," she said earlier this month. "They see me 3-4 hours a day and they think they know my entire 24 hours. Which is cool. It's fine. The work will always show. I'm a believer in that, I have confidence in that."
Bueckers, who averaged 21.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last campaign, will play her final college basketball season.
