UConn star Paige Bueckers engaged with Clackamas High School guard Jazzy Davidson in a conversation about her favorite professional players. Davidson was recently named to the 2024 USA Women's U18 National Team trials at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado.
She had a standout performance in the USA’s 97-51 victory over Brazil in their tournament opener on Monday, tying a U-18 record with the team’s 12th 3-pointer in the game, while also contributing five rebounds, three blocks and a steal.
During an interview clip shared by Overtime on Instagram, Bueckers asked Davidson which professional player she would want to train with. Bueckers first asked:
"Who's on your list of all-time great shooting guards?"
To which Davidson responded:
"Sabrina [Ionescu] is definitely one, because I just grew up watching her play since she went to Oregon, and Diana Taurasi."
In 2016, Ionescu was the highest-rated point guard and the fourth-best recruit overall, ultimately deciding to attend Oregon Ducks instead of other universities.
Bueckers then asked:
“If you could have anyone train you for a day, who would it be?"
Davidson chose one and replied in the blink of a second:
"Probably Diana, because she's been in the league for so long and has gone through all the experiences I want to go through. It'd be cool to learn from her."
Bueckers noted that "she went to UConn,” as Taurasi started her college career there in the 2000-2001 season.
Jazzy Davidson is taking time with recruitment
In April, On3 reported that the five-star recruit has narrowed her list of potential colleges to six: USC, UCLA, Duke, South Carolina, TCU and Texas. Davidson, who has received offers from nearly all top programs nationwide, discussed her recruitment process (via On3):
“I’m really trying to take my time with [the decision] right now,” Davidson said in April. “I have some visits planned for the fall. But I want to visit all of the schools on that list and so far, I’ve only visited two.”
Ranked as the No. 3 recruit in the class of 2025 by ESPN HoopGurlz, Jazzy Davidson has offers from several major Division I schools, including USC and LSU, but has yet to make a final decision.
She has been instrumental in leading Clackamas High School to three consecutive Mt. Hood Conference championships and the 2022-23 Class 6A state championship.
