Paige Bueckers continued to extend her support for former teammates as she attended Aaliyah Edwards' game against the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday. This is not her first time at a Lynx game and the UConn Huskies guard has been on the sidelines multiple times, supporting Edwards and Nika Muhl.
Bueckers shared a clip from the Washington Mystics vs Lynx game to her Instagram Story and she added three red heart-eye emojis to the video.
A fan account on Instagram also shared pictures and videos of Bueckers at the game.
Paige Bueckers, along with Edwards and Muhl, formed the core that led UConn to its Final Four run last season. All three came to Storrs in 2020, however, Bueckers' time with the others was less due to her back-to-back injuries. Commenting on their relationship, the graduate senior guard said (via CT Insider):
“Nika and Aaliyah are like my sisters. They're my bridesmaids. I want them to be like my kids’ godparents, like god-moms. We've built such a strong relationship ever since we came into UConn together as freshmen and it means everything to be here, especially with all the blows we were dealt.
"The adversity that we went through to really come together and find strength within each other and lead this group of freshmen here to the Final Four."
Edwards was picked No. 3 by the Mystics in the 2024 WNBA Draft while Muhl went to Seattle as the No. 14 pick. Paige Bueckers was present on the draft day to cheer for her friends and they will likely do the same for her next year when she declares for the draft.
Paige Bueckers is already preparing for the WNBA while still in college
Historically, WNBA players have not been paid well and former UConn players Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier founded 'Unrivaled' to fix this. The new 3v3 women's professional league is reported to pay competitive salaries to the players while also offering everyone an ownership stake in their teams.
While she is still a year away from the WNBA, Paige Bueckers is already securing her future as she is set to sign with the league. With this, she becomes the only college player to sign with a professional league. Until her official transition into the pro-league, Bueckers will take on a more promotional role.
Apart from this, WNBA also signed a new media rights deal worth $2.2 billion with NBC, Amazon and Disney. The deal will run from 2026 through to the next 11 years. This new hike in funds is also expected to raise the minimum salary of the players.
