UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers and LSU Tigers star Flau'jae Johnson have taken over as the faces of college women's basketball after the departures of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese to the WNBA. This is reflected in their rankings in the On3 NIL 100 list (No. 9 for Bueckers and No. 13 for Johnson), which ranks the NIL valuations of student-athletes.
Bueckers and Johnson battled in Friday's Overtime Select Takeover event at the OTE Arena, Atlanta, where Team Paige battled Team Flau'jae in a five versus five game.
A clip of Paige Bueckers and Flau'jae Johnson vibing with their teams during team introductions was posted on the Overtime Select Instagram page with the caption:
"Y’all they trying to viral rn 😂 @flaujae @paigebueckers @gatorade."
The game was a part of the Overtime Elite Series (OTE), which seeks to grow basketball by highlighting the rising stars in the women's game. Team Paige won the encounter after putting together a 12-0 run to close out the game 105-102.
Despite being rivals on the court, Paige Bueckers and Flau'jae Johnson share a long history of friendship having worked out together in the past. Most recently, they attended the ESPYs together and sat next to each other at the WNBA All-Star game.
Paige Bueckers continues to be involved in different leagues
Apart from being associated with the Overtime Elite Series, Paige Bueckers recently signed a NIL deal with the new women's 3-on-3 basketball league Unrivaled. The league seeks to keep players from the WNBA from going to foreign leagues during the offseason.
It was founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. The deal with Bueckers makes her the first active student-athlete to receive an ownership stake in a sports league.
While speaking to ESPN after the Washington Mystics vs. Minnesota Lynx game which she attended on Thuesday, Bueckers spoke about allying herself with Unrivaled and what she hoped to accomplish:
"Just super excited to be a part of something that's helping grow the game and just building my investments, building my ownership and just trying to build wealth and build my brand then to be a part of something like that is a huge blessing. I'm extremely grateful that they let me be a part of that. It's just super exciting for the future of women's basketball."
Paige Bueckers will be eligible to play in the Unrivaled League in 2026, after she hopefully joins the WNBA via the 2025 Draft.
