As Dan Hurley draws eyeballs to the UConn Huskies men's basketball program, their women's basketball unit is not too far behind. They harbor the best young talent in the coming talent pool, Paige Bueckers, and a coach who has led them to 11 NCAA titles, Geno Auriemma.

Just a week after making headlines for posing his crew on top of a Tesla Cybertruck, it looks like Auriemma has his UConn roster back to grind. The program posted a brief mixtape of the player's summer practice on Instagram, showcasing their new and improved roster.

UConn's women's team is one of the toughest teams in the coming season. Despite losing key contributors Nika Muhl and Aaliyah Edwards, Ashlynn Shade, KK Arnold, Aubrey Griffin and Azzi Fudd return to the lineup.

Auriemma, who is usually welcoming of harboring fresh and growing talent, has only added Sarah Strong as a potential significant contributor to the roster. Nevertheless, they acquired Kaitlyn Chen through the transfer portal, who brings a winning record of 74-16 over three years and three Ivy League titles.

Moreover, Paige Bueckers also returns to Huskies for potentially her last year. She is the best prospect in the nation and is assumed to be the No. 1 pick in the WNBA's 2025 draft.

What will UConn's starting lineup look like next season?

The UConn fanbase expects nothing short of a thrilling 2024-25 season. While topping last season's Final Four presence would be tough, Geno Auriemma will give it a shot. With that, the starting roster could look something like:

  • Paige Bueckers
  • KK Arnold
  • Kaitlyn Chen
  • Aubrey Griffin
  • Ice Brady

Only Arnold and Bueckers return as the previous season's starters. Arnold carries hopes of building on her Big East All-Freshman team selection last year.

Bueckers operated as a forward last year. However, her role as a guard could help her transition to the big league, where she could be playing point. Moreover, it will be an exciting challenge to test her potential, which promises that the 2024-25 season could be her best collegiate season.

Chen entered the UConn lineup in the offseason as the 2023 Ivy League's Player of the Year. She could help Auriemma fill the void of his lost stars, just like Brady and Griffin.

Brady was a reliable backup for Aaliyah Edwards last year. Griffin, on the other hand, saw her season cut short after suffering an ACL injury. Nevertheless, both of them will see an increased court time this year.
