Texas coach Vic Schaefer will return to the Southeastern Conference next season after spending eight seasons at Mississippi State. The 2017-18 National Coach of the Year's second stop as a head coach was at Mississippi State in 2012. He took over at UT in 2020.
“In the Schaefer household, it was eight great years,” Schaefer said about the Bulldogs on "The Paul Finebaum Show" earlier this month. “And we have so many fond memories, so many great friends still there today. I have a farm still there, we built our dream home on it, never got to live in it.
"And so it’s a place that will always be near and dear to our hearts. There’s a piece of me that will always be a Bulldog.”
Schaefer went 221-62 overall and 89-39 at State. The Bulldogs were the runners-up in the NCAA Tournament and the SEC regular season champions in both 2018 and 2019. He's made three Elite Eight appearances in four seasons at Texas.
2 high school prospects Vic Schaefer could sign
#1, Aaliyah Chavez
Point guard Aaliyah Chavez from Monterey High School (Lubbock, Texas) is the nation's top basketball prospect in the 2025 class, according to ESPN.
She was named an SBLive Sophomore All-American in the 2022-23 season, averaging 30.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.1 steals per game.
As a junior, she averaged 37.8 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 4.4 apg and 3.5 spg.
#2, Grace Knox
Another player Vic Schaefer would love to sign for Texas is Grace Knox. The 6-foot-2 wing from Etiwanda High School (Rancho Cucamonga, Texas) is ranked 14th in the nation by Prospects Nation and No. 8 by ESPN.
Knox is great at reading the floor and is known for her basketball IQ. Her size lets her crash the boards at both ends, and she is known for her interior scoring.
Vic Schaefer will head into the 2024-25 season with the Longhorns after reaching the Elite Eight last season. How far do you think will he take the team next season?
