Bronny James is expected to be drafted in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft on Thursday. While there is a lot of controversy around his draft prospect, ESPN analyst Tim Legler believes he can be used to ignite the cold war between the Boston Celtics and the LA Lakers.

Speaking on the NBA Draft show ahead of the second round on Thursday, the analyst presented a hypothetical scenario in which the Celtics select Bronny with the 54th pick, one spot ahead of the Lakers, and subsequently use the point guard to negotiate for Austin Reeves in a trade.

“54th pick. We renew the Cold War between the Celtics and the Lakers,” Tim Legler said. “The Boston Celtics take Bronny James and send a ransom note to the Lakers: 'We have your son. We have your son. If you want him back ... If you want him back, it's gonna take Austin Reeves.’”

The Lakers remain the favorite to select Bronny James

Ahead of the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft on Thursday, the Lakers are still considered favorites to select Bronny James. The franchise holds the 55th pick in the final round of the draft, and it is anticipated that they will pick the point guard in a bid to keep LeBron on the team.

Over the years, LeBron James has been vocal about his dream to play alongside his son on the same NBA team, and it’s about time he achieves that goal.

Nonetheless, Bronny to the Lakers is not yet a certainty. There have been reports that some NBA teams with earlier picks than the Lakers are considering the possibility of drafting the former USC point guard. This is in a bid to lure LeBron down to their franchise. Some drama might definitely unfold on Draft Day 2.
