Sports commentator Keith Olbermann recently called LSU Tiger star Angel Reese a “f*****g idiot” for making the “You Can’t See Me” gesture to Iowa star Caitlin Clark on Sunday. Reese taunted Clark, who previously did the same thing to Louisville’s Hailey Van Lith in an Elite Eight game.
Reese received plenty of abuse on social media, including from Keith Olbermann.
Olbermann added:
"Doesn't matter the gender, the sport, the background - you're seconds away from a championship and you do something like this and overshadow all the good. Mindless, classless, and what kind of coach does this team have?"
Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal, who also went to LSU, hit back at the former ESPN host:
"Shut your dumb a** up leave Angel Reese alone."
Actor Samuel L. Jackson, a friend of LSU guard Jasmine Carson's family, backed up Shaq's comments and took a shot at Olbermann:
"Thanks for reminding us what Lil Dick Energy actually is, Keith!!!"
Keith Olbermann responded to Jackson's post:
"Yeah Sam, I already trashed Clark in the podcast and in tweet two of the thread but go on."
The LSU Tigers beat the Iowa Hawkeyes 102-85 to win their first national championship in women's basketball (and the school's 50th overall).
After the game, Angel Reese explained why she brought out wrestler John Cena's trademark celebration:
"I was waiting. I'll tell you, I was waiting, I was waiting. Man, hey, Caitlin Clark is an incredible player, for sure. But I don't take disrespect lightly. She disrespected (LSU's) Alexis (Moore) and my girls, South Carolina, they're still my SEC girls, too, and y'all not gonna disrespect them, either."
Clark, who was spectacular throughout the tournament, said this about the taunt:
"Honestly, I had no idea. I was just trying to get to the handshake line and shake hands. Be grateful that my team was in that position. That's all you can do is hold your head high and be proud of what you did. All the credit in the world to LSU. They were tremendous."

Keith Olbermann apologizes for his tweet about Angel Reese
Following backlash for his tweet about Angel Reese, Keith Olbermann eventually apologized:
"I apologize for being uninformed last night about the back story on this. I don't follow hoops, college or pro, men or women. I had no idea about Clark. Both were wrong."
Angel Reese, meanwhile, called out the double standards with respect to the reactions to her gesture:
“All year I was critiqued about who I was. I’m too hood, I’m too ghetto, y’all told me that all year. When other people do it, y’all don’t say nothing … So, this is for the girls that look like me, for those that want to speak up for what they believe in. ... It was bigger than me tonight. And Twitter is going to go into a rage every time.”
Reese was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after her 15-point and 10-rebound performance against Iowa.
Reese had sparked controversy earlier in the season for taunting a player after making a dynamic block while holding her shoe in her other hand. She was hit with a technical foul on the play.
