The preseason AP Top 25 Women's College Basketball Poll released on Tuesday. There was no surprise at the top - with defending champions South Carolina Gamecocks atop the rankings followed by the UConn Huskies and the USC Trojans, who have 2024 unanimous first-team All-Americans Paige Bueckers and JuJu Watkins, respectively.
Despite reaching last year's national championship game - where they suffered an 87-75 loss to South Carolina - the Iowa Hawkeyes were not ranked in their first season following the departure of Caitlin Clark.
Long-time coach Lisa Bluder also retired following last season's postseason push, with Jan Jensen being elevated to the position. Starters Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall and Molly Davis have all also graduated, giving the program an almost entirely new feel.
The Hawkeyes looked to bolster their scoring punch by adding Lucy Olsen via the transfer portal. The former Villanova Wildcats guard finished third in the NCAA in scoring last season, trailing only Clark and Watkins.
She averaged 23.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.6 blocks per game, shooting 43.8% from the field, 29.4% from three-point range and 80.7% from the free-throw line.
The addition of Olsen was a big reason that Iowa received the most votes of any team outside of the rankings. Take a look at the full preseason AP Top 25 Women's College Basketball Poll below.
