Former Arkansas Razorbacks guard Jeremiah Davenport was arrested in New York City days after the 2024 NBA draft. He was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a loaded firearm, possession of an ammo feed device and tinted windows early Saturday morning, according to reports.

Davenport was born on Sept. 24, 1999, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Darren and Sheila Davenport, and he has three sisters (Deborah, Naomi and Gabrielle) and two brothers(Michael and Joshua).

His mother, Sheila Davenport, played basketball for Morehead State while his father Darren played for Alcorn State. Jeremiah played for Hargrave Military Academy before committing to Cincinnati.

Davenport played his fifth and final season for the Arkansas Razorbacks in 2023-24, averaging 5.0 points in 31 games. His best scoring season came in 2021-2022 when he played for the Cincinnati Bearcats and averaged 13.4 points over 32 starts.

He had declared for the 2024 NBA Draft in April but was not selected on either night.

According to the police report, at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, the officers noted a black BMW X5 double parked in Washington Heights, Manhattan, with the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle that had tinted windows. Davenport was in the vehicle with another unidentified male and did not produce identification when asked. Officers then saw the firearm behind the passenger seat, leading to the arrest.

It was not the first time that Jeremiah Davenport has been arrested. In October, he was arrested on a misdemeanor charge related to a speeding ticket after turning himself in to the Fayetteville police department. He did not pay a bond and was released 20 minutes after being arrested.

Jeremiah Davenport gets high praise from coaches

Jeremiah Davenport has played for two coaches, Wes Miller for four years and Eric Musselman for a year, and both had a glowing report of what type of a player he was.

He has been extensively praised for his will to win and competitive spirit by his coaches.

"God, I love Jeremiah Davenport," Cincinnati Bearcats coach Wes Miller said in a 2023 interview with The Athletic. "I love them all, but I love him. When he takes the floor, he just wants Cincinnati to win basketball games. If they were all like that every day, coaching is pretty easy. And he's fun to coach."

After the Razorbacks beat the LSU Tigers 94-83 last season, the then-Arkansas and now-USC Trojans coach Eric Musselman was full of praise.

"You always want a spirit in practice, and you always want a spirit about you in games, and he has a really positive, uplifting spirit," Musselman said. "Personally, when I go down to coach practice, I'm looking forward to coaching J.D., because he brings energy and he brings enthusiasm."

When the Razorbacks faced a slide last season, it was Jeremiah Davenport who fronted up and spoke to the reporters after the games while trying to pick up his teammates.
