Lucy Olsen transferred to the Iowa Hawkeyes in April for her senior season. She is helping the team navigate its new era after Caitlin Clark and Lisa Bluder's departure.
Olsen has been in a relationship with her boyfriend, Grayson Herr since 2023. Herr played four seasons with the Trinity Tigers from 2020 to 2024. He played just one game as a freshman but his role expanded a bit more in the following years.
Grayson Herr averaged 2.7 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists as a junior. He had his best season in his senior year when he averaged 3.6 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists. On the team's website, Herr explained why he chose to play for the Tigers.
"Trinity is the perfect place to pursue a collegiate athletic career while also getting a top-notch education. After seeing the facilities and campus it wasn’t a hard decision."
Grayson Herr graduated in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematical Finance. His academic honors include NABC Honors Court for the 2022-23 year and was featured on SCAC Academic Honor Roll twice in 2021 and 2022.
Herr is currently working as an Associate Sales Representative with the Lincoln Financial Group in Dallas, Texas. His brother Zach is also an athlete who played baseball at the University of Nebraska. He was drafted into the MLB by the San Diego Padres in 2008 but switched to the Minor League a few years later.
Lucy Olsen includes her boyfriend and Iowa teammates in her Thanksgiving shout-out
Lucy Olsen celebrated Thanksgiving this year in the Bahamas with her family and boyfriend. In an Instagram post on Friday, Olsen shared photographs with her parents, Iowa teammates and Grayson Herr.
"Thankful🦃💛🏝️," she wrote in the caption.
Lucy Olsen missed Iowa's last two games against Rhode Island and BYU due to a leg injury she sustained at one of Iowa’s practices in Cancun. Her father, Roland Olsen updated fans via his X on Saturday.
"Thanks to everyone who has checked on Lucy and her knee. She had a freak trip and fall while leaving the raised playing surface and landed flush on the sharp edge of the court.
"It split open the skin all the way across her kneecap and required a ton of stitches to close it back up. The Iowa medical staff was on hand and sutured Lucy courtside under the added lighting of flashlights from half a dozen cell phones."
According to his tweets, Lucy Olsen could return to playing against Tennessee on Dec. 7.
