Georgia Amoore had a strong impact on the Virginia Tech Hokies throughout her first four years there. However, she has since transferred to Kentucky and has explained the reasoning behind the decision.
Amoore went on the "Sunday Morning Sports Talk" show back in April, reflecting on her career with the Hokies and why she joined the Wildcats.
In 126 appearances, she averaged 14.7 points, 5.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. Her senior campaign also featured her best performance, putting up career-highs in points with 18.8 and assists with 6.8 per contest.
Going into the 2024-25 season, she looked set to continue having a major role in the offense and wanted to remain the primary scorer on the team. Instead, Elizabeth Kitley had that responsibility as Amoore decided to look elsewhere for her fifth year in the sport.
“Well, I mean, I don’t think I was going to get anywhere near close to leading scorer. My old teammate (Elizabeth Kitley), she had that pretty locked down. But I know it’s a big decision for me, I think, you know, fifth year. I could have left, I could have gone home, I could have gone pro. I had a lot to consider,” Amoore said.
Despite the departure, Georgia Amoore was grateful for the chances her former coach Kenny Brooks gave her, helping her grow on and off the court.
“Coach Brooks has made me into the player I am today, and I know there’s so much more to learn and to grow,” she said.
“At the end of my time at Kentucky, I will have to move on from the college lifestyle. But, you know, what better place to do it than at Kentucky with Coach Brooks? And I’m super excited, and I’m very, very comfortable in my decision.”
How Georgia Amoore has performed for Kentucky this season
Georgia Amoore wanted a primary role in the offense, and she looks to have gotten that with the No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats.
After five games, Amoore is averaging 15.4 points, 8.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds, a steal, and a block per contest on 37.1% shooting from the field and 28.6% from downtown. Despite her shooting splits being below average, her playmaking ability has been on full display as Kentucky's offense has benefitted from her passing.
Her last two games, against Louisville on Nov. 16 and Purdue on Nov. 18, were noteworthy. She put up 21 points, eight assists, 2.5 rebounds, a steal, and a block on average as she demonstrated her potency as a player who can make key plays for not only herself but her teammates as well.
Off to a 5-0 start, Georgia Amoore and the No. 15 Wildcats will look to go 6-0 when they play Arizona State at the Trojan Fieldhouse in Nashville, Tennessee, on Nov. 26 at 4:30 p.m. ET.
