Houston native Dyllan Thompson, son of former WNBA player and Virginia Cavaliers coach Tina Thompson, has announced his commitment to Georgia Tech. With his recruitment, the Yellowjackets' class is now ranked in the top 30.

Thompson announced his commitment on Instagram, with the caption:

"100% COMMITTED!!🐝🐝 @gtmensbasketball"

Thompson's mother, Tina, was the first overall pick in the 1997 WNBA draft and played 17 years in the league before retiring in 2013. During that time, the forward played for the Houston Comets, Los Angeles Sparks and Seattle Storm. She won four consecutive WNBA championships from 1997 to 2000.

Thompson then turned to coaching, working with the Texas Longhorns and Virginia. In an interview for the Longhorns' special piece on his mother, Dyllan said:

"Basketball players don't get much time to rest. If you're not practicing or playing, you're preparing. It's constant work, and my mom always worked. So I feel like it's my place to do the same now.
"My goals have changed. My goal is to be better than her, or do what she did -- at the level that she did it. I might not play 17 seasons. I might play more. It just goes where it goes."

Dyllan Thompson: Player profile

In his senior season with Second Baptist, Thompson averaged 18 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, leading the team in scoring. The wing shot 35% from the three-point range. With his immense potential, Dyllan Thompson is expected to impact the Yellowjackets on both ends of the court.

In his player assessment, Sports Illustrated's Arvon Bacon wrote:

"Analyzing the Houston natives film, Dyllan loves to play the game with great energy on both sides of the ball, but what stood out to me is his willingness to crash the glass.
"His offensive prowess is also nothing to disregard, Thompson's offensive bag has upsized. Being a wiry wing with a nice frame to grow into, betting that his ball-handling will continue to improve, he'll have the raw ability to get to any spot he chooses with his length and size. His jumper seems to be in sync and smooth."

With his offensive and defensive skills, Thompson's addition to Georgia Tech gives coach Damon Stoudamire more depth and skill on the roster.
