USC star JuJu Watkins has brought her stellar second-year campaign into 2025 with a 75-55 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Wednesday. In the 20-point victory, Watkins dropped another 20-point game with 26 markers to go along with three rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block.
As the 6-foot-2 guard posted another outstanding outing for the Trojans, fans have started to compare her to other basketball legends. Watkins is just in her second year, meaning she could carve out a tremendously successful college career when all is said and done much to the delight of the USC faithful.
"So smooth. WNBA, your Michael Jordan is on the way," one fan captioned with a fire emoji.
"26 points off seven buckets. Very KD-like," another fan expressed.
"Baby Bean," a fan replied with a picture of the late great Kobe Bryant.
Besides the comparisons to both former and current NBA stars, spectators also put her in the discussion with WNBA standouts, Maya Moore being a popular comp.
"Hot take, she gonna end up being the up there with Maya Moore, Lisa Leslie, & A’ja (Wilson)," one fan posted.
"She gives me Maya Moore vibes. That kid is a STAR," another user said.
"The most complete women's player since Maya...She literally has no flaws in her game," a user wrote.
With more remarkable performances, Watkins could end up becoming a college great when she eventually plays out her eligibility.
In the meantime, Watkins will need to focus further so that she can sustain her excellent play this season. The Trojans will go to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights' homefloor next on Sunday, Jan. 5.
JuJu Watkins wins second straight AP Player of the Week award
At just 19 years old, JuJu Watkins is already looking like a seasoned veteran with the way she handles the ball and her ability to score at all three levels.
Watkins was named the AP's Player of the Week in women's college basketball on Tuesday. It's the second straight week she's won the award and the third time this season.
This came after leading USC to an impressive 78-58 win over No. 23 Michigan. Watkins had an all-around performance with 31 points, five rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and three blocks.
For the 2024-2025 season, Watkins is averaging 25.3 markers, 5.6 caroms, 4.1 dimes, 2.4 swipes and 2.0 blocks per contest.
The second-year sensation has propelled the No. 4-ranked USC team to a 13-1 record. They will look to keep that momentum afloat as the Trojans have deeper national tournament aspirations this year after bowing out in the Elite Eight last season.
