"Wong will sell five jerseys lmao": College hoops fans push back analyst’s comparison of Bronny James and 2023 55th pick Isaiah Wong

Bronny James was drafted 55th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2024. On Wednesday, James inked a four-year rookie contract with the Lakers valued at $7.9 million.

Bronny's father, LeBron James, also reportedly agreed to return to the Lakers following a two-year $104 million deal. This means basketball fans are guaranteed to witness the first father-son duo in NBA history.

Jeff Goodman, a basketball analyst, quoted The Athletic's NBA insider Shams Charania's tweet about Bronny James' Lakers deal, comparing it with last season's 55th pick, Isaiah Wong.

"Isaiah Wong was drafted 55th a year ago. He signed a two-way deal and earned somewhere in the $600-700K range," Goodman wrote.

However, fans wasted no time pushing back with their own opinions. Some fans humorously pointed out Wong's low jersey sales.

"Wong will sell five jerseys lmao," one fan commented.
"Nobody buying Isaiah Wong jerseys buddy," another fan wrote.

Some fans said Bronny James is enjoying all the leverage because of his legendary father.

"Sounds like Wong doesn’t have a dad playing in the NBA," one fan wrote.
"Did Isaiah Wong's father win a title with the team that drafted Isaiah, or break the all-time scoring record with said team?" one more said.

Some fans showed their concern about Wong's agents and contract.

"Sounds like Wong needs a better agent because Trayce Jackson-Davis was drafted 57th and Chris Livingston 58th and they both got basically the same deal as Bronny," the fan commented.
"Stop!! Brings salary so the same as any other 2nd rounder who’s not signed on a two way contract!! Same contract Max Christie got. Want wasn’t signed to an actual roster spot!! Please STOP with this nonsense," another fan remarked.

Bronny James on playing with LeBron James

Bronny James comprehends the increased pressure he faces playing alongside his father LeBron. The 6-foot-2 guard spoke with the media on Tuesday, where he talked about making a name for himself in the NBA.

"I just want to come in and get my work in and get better every day. I never really had a thought of me going to play with my dad," James told reporters. "I’ve already seen it, media and on the internet and stuff talking about [how] I might not deserve an opportunity, but I’ve been dealing with stuff like this for my whole life, so it’s nothing different."

Bronny spent a season with the USC Trojans in his college basketball career and averaged 4.8 PPG, 2.8 RPG and 2.1 APG. However, his numbers were severely affected by a medical issue that saw him undergo a heart procedure last summer.
