“Y’all lucky Geno Auriemma doesn’t allow his players to stat pad”: College hoops fans react as Paige Bueckers goes off vs Villanova

On Wednesday, Paige Bueckers dominated in UConn's 100–57 victory against Villanova. Fans feel the Huskies showed the Wildcats mercy by not giving more playing time to Bueckers.

In 26 minutes of action, Bueckers had a triple-double as she finished with 21 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and three steals. She shot 8-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. After the game, The UConn women's basketball page posted her stats on Instagram and wrote:

"Paige Bueckers was unstoppable vs. Villanova."

Fans who saw the post felt Bueckers' numbers would have been bigger had she played more minutes with the game too far from Villanova's reach.

"Y'all are so lucky that Geno doesn't allow his players to stat pad. Bc she would've had a lot of triple doubles by now! Mind you, she's doing all of this under 30mins per game," one fan wrote.

"An almost triple double while sitting out the entire 4th. Absolute legend," another wrote.

"She could average 40/10 so easily. Paige hardly shoots and still averages 20 ppg," one fan wrote.

Others commented on how much Auriemma changed from past seasons while believing that UConn will make a deep postseason run this year.

"Geno would've let Maya and Tina get their double doubles and then bench them. Funny how he grew out of this habit ... she'll get her triple double," one fan wrote.

"Justtt wowww!! Look at her stat what if she play more minutes," a fan wrote.

"This Uconn team is gonna win it all," one fan wrote.

What's next for Paige Bueckers, UConn

Paige Bueckers has been marvelous as a scorer and playmaker for the No. 6 Huskies.

Eighteen games into the 2024-25 season, Bueckers averages 19.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game. She shoots 56.9% from the field, including 43.4% from beyond the arc.

This has allowed UConn to boast an 18-2 overall record, including a 9-0 in conference play. The team is putting up 80.5 points on shooting splits of 51.8% overall and 37.1% from downtown, blowing out opponents by 29.6 ppg.

Bueckers and the Huskies will next play the Creighton Blue Jays on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET.
