Dan Hurley addressed the trolls criticizing his vivid sideline reactions in an interview with 247Sports. In a YouTube video posted on Jan. 24, the UConn Huskies coach accused media representatives of prioritizing fan engagement and being stuck in the Twitter update race, rather than focusing on team practices.

He highlighted that Huskies fans and players admire and support his approach. In response to opposing team fans, he pointed to the culture he has built, and he called the media representatives "soft."

"My players love playing for me, my UConn fans love the way I coach and then my resume and my results speak for themselves relative to championships produced and put my players in the highest level of professional sports," Hurley said (Timestamp: 4:28).
"The people want to have at me, the super soft media people that want to cancel me for being an intense coach, I don't think we need to make sports softer, so yeah, go for it."
"And then the fans of teams and programs that wish they were us, that get joy out of these moments with me on the sideline, then enjoy that. But you don't have what we got, which is the banners. But if this is your moment right here to mock me on social media for being an intense coach, go for it."

Dan Hurley, the back-to-back defending champion coach, has faced harsh criticism this season for his interactions with referees. Analyst Jay Bilas accused him of displaying "bad behavior," while Jeff Goodman, despite praising Hurley's intentions for his team, labeled his approach towards officials as "disgusting."

Dan Hurley jokes about UConn's loss to Xavier

When Dan Hurley and UConn defeated the Xaver Musketeers 99-56 on Jan. 11, 2024, Hurley hilariously exited his post-game interview with the Cincinnati Bengals' "Who dey" slogan.

UConn lost 76-72 to Xavier on Saturday for the first time in the last five contests between the two programs. Hurley, a big Bengals fan, humorously acknowledged his inability to chant the NFL team's slogan:

"I'm not saying 'Who Dey' this year," he said at the end of his interview.

Dan Hurley's UConn (14-6, 6-3 Big East) has its worst record in the first 20 games since the 2020-21 season. That year, the Huskies earned their first NCAA bid under Hurley but lost to 10th-seeded Maryland in the first round.
