Carmelo Anthony's son, Kiyan Anthony, enjoyed a great summer as he put up impressive numbers in the summer leagues like Nike EYBL and Invitational tournaments.
One such event that Kiyan participated in was the Nike NY vs. NY Championship basketball championship in August. Fresh off the Paris trip he took with his father to support Team USA, the shooting guard joined in to play for Gersh Park (Brooklyn).
On Tuesday's episode of his podcast, "7 PM in Brooklyn," Carmelo Anthony recalled how Kiyan came into participating in the championship.
"He wasn't even supposed to play. That's not even his team," Carmelo said. "He wasn't even supposed to play. He just be popping up at parks and sh*t, jumping on teams.
"So, what ended up happening (was) he told them he was available. That's why he left me from Paris to go play the NY versus NY game. He pulled up like, 'Yo, let me get a jersey'. I'm like, 'Yo, you not even supposed to play. Why you even goin' up there? I'm in Pairs, you leave me."
While Carmelo understood Kyle Anthony's hunger and passion to play more games, he thought that this was not his best decision since the other players on the team had been playing together all summer.
"You think you can come off from Paris and like, 'Yo, let me get a jersey.' It's cool but don't even play," Melo said.
Kiyan Anthony prepares for his college transition
Kiyan Anthony shortlisted his college offers to the top six programs and is now taking official visits to the schools. After visiting his father's alma mater, Syracuse, on Sept 4, the guard is set to visit USC between September 14-16.
The other schools on his list are Rutgers, Ohio State, Florida State and Auburn. The No. 1 ranked recruit from New York is set to make his final decision in November before his senior season at Long Island Lutheran High School begins in the winter.
Although the one-and-done route is the norm these days, Carmelo Anthony shared on his podcast in February that he will discourage his son from this, despite doing it himself. Melo spent one year with the Orange and led them to their only NCAA championship.
While Kiyan Anthony has shared that he is approaching recruitment with an open mind, many fans predict him to also wear the Orange jersey.
